Top 5 Family Events in DC and Maryland October 5th-7th

Hey everyone! I’ve been out for the past couple of weeks but I am back with my weekly top five things to do in DC and Maryland this weekend. The weather looks great so get out there and have fun! This week there are photography exhibits, ship tours, an air show, a play, and a corn maze!

  1. Diane Arbus - A Box of Ten Photographs - Now - January 21, 2019 - 11:30am-7pm

    This exhibit displays the photographer, Diane Arbus’s portfolio titled “A Box of Ten Photographs” Only 8 known sets of this portfolio were purchased during her lifetime. Diane Arbus is credited as the first photographer to bring photography into the art world. In 1971 she was the first photographer to be featured in ArtForum. While you are at the Smithsonian, check out the rest of their fabulous collection!

  2. Working the Water - Photography by Jay Fleming - Now - November 3, 2018 - 9am-5pm

    Looking to check out a photography exhibit but want to stay local? Then head to the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Jay Flemings collections of photographs from the Chesapeake Bay will be on display. In 2016, Jay published a book with over 300 photographs from his time photographing the Chesapeake Bay. Some of those photos will be on display as well as photos from his upcoming book, Island Life, which chronicles Smith Island and Tangier Island.

  3. Maryland Fleet Week - October 3rd - October 9th - 9am

    This event will be fun for the whole family! During Fleet Week you will be able to tour US, Canadian, and British ships, as well as US Coast Guard vessels and traditional sail boats. Fleet Week will also have an air show put on by the Air Force Thunderbirds!

  4. Singing in the Rain - Now - October 20, 2018 - 8pm

    2nd Star Productions is putting on the play, Singing in the Rain. If you loved the movie then you will love this stage production. General admission is $22, seniors, active military, and students are $19, and children 11 and under are $12.

  5. The Maryland Corn Maze - Now - November 4, 2018 - 10:30am-7pm

    The Maryland Corn Maze is the perfect way to kick off fall. There will be a giant corn maze, hay rides, a petting zoo, pedal carts, and pony rides. There will also be lots of food including The Little Red Wagon (cheesesteaks, subs, and hot dogs), The Yellow Kettle Corn Truck (kettle corn, apple cider, cheesecake, and roasted nuts), Gigi’s Snowbarn (snowballs), and Phamily Foods (hamburgers, pizza, taco salad, and more.) Check out their website for lots of other activities that will be offered at the corn maze. General admission is $12, plus they have specials for families and military.
